Easy Cast Iron Skillet Apple Pie
Ingredients
- 2 Lbs Granny Smith Apples
- 2 Lbs. Braeburn Apples or Gala
- 1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
- ¾ cup Granulated Sugar
- ½ cup Unsalted Butter
- 1 cup Firmly Packed Light Brown Sugar
- 1 package Pillsbury Refrigerated Pie Crusts
- 1 Egg White at room temperature
- 2 Tablespoons Turbinado Sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Peel apples & cut into ½” slices.
- Toss with cinnamon and ¾ cup sugar.
- Melt butter in a 10” cast iron skillet over medium heat.
- Add brown sugar and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1-2 minutes until sugar is dissolved.
- Remove skillet from heat and place 1 pie crust in skillet over the brown sugar mixture.
- Spoon apple mixture over piecrust and top with remaining pie crust.
- Whisk egg white till foamy & using pastry brush, brush top of pie crust with egg white.
- Sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- Using a sharp paring knife, make about 5, ½” slits in crust to ventilate for steam.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for approximately 1 hour & 10 minutes or until golden brown & bubbly.
- Shield pie with foil the last 20 minutes or so to keep from over browning.
- Allow pie to sit for about 30 minutes at room temperature, then serve with vanilla ice cream, butter pecan ice cream, or whipped cream or all of the above!
